For our first week on the course, we were given the simple task to learn and operate the software “PhotoShop“. My first piece using ‘PhotoShop‘ was a of a character called “Freddy Fazbear“, this idea came to me due to the game I was producing at the time, this being “Five Nights At Freddy’s Deceased“.

This unfortunately didn’t turn out well. However, there are a couple factors as to why this is the case.
- Time Constraints, i was limited due to the limited 2hour session and the need to learn all the tools within the software itself.
- Lack of confidence with the software.
Inspiration
The inspiration came from the franchise Five Nights At Freddy’s, this is important due to it inspiring me to create my own game with those characters, this game I am making is called “Five Nights At Freddy’s Deceased“.
Remaking the image
Nevertheless I didn’t quit! I made sure to do the very best I could. This means Redoing the entire piece from scratch. This started like any other art piece I’ve made, making a pre determined layer bank to make sure i have everything to make it look great. The layers I chose were, Unlit, Shadow, outline, reference. Keeping everything on different layers means that after shadows are put down the base colours can be changed and keep the shadows and vice-versa. The reference layer is used for some reference photos I would want, specifically to get proper proportions and shadows.

This is the reference photo I have to draw from, I picked this due to the shadows and materials it uses. I thought that it would be an appropriate challenge to remake it in PhotoShop.
I got this photo reference by a friend on discord with explicit approval to use it as reference.

This is the outcome of multiple hours used and a better understanding of PhotoShop. having the extra time allowed me to make details like the texture work stand out to the point I like it.
Having the reference really helped with the proportions and the colours used.
I used a multitude of different brushed to get the texture look on the base model, to simulate a fabric style of material.
If I were to re-do this character I would make sure the ears had depth, and make sure the eyes look more life like and had shine to them, this is because everything looks like it has the same roughness apart from the ears as of which should be as rough as the base material but the eyes should have glass like feel.
If i was to do something similar to this I think I would go with a different character, such as Bonnie, I feel like he has more interesting ways to draw and structure them in an image which you cant really do with Freddy.

For example I could of done something similar to this , as a 2d drawing.

Or even have his faceplate torn off so we get to see endo skeletons. just something more interesting to look at.

The idea originally came from my models, since I had just finished my first model I wanted to recreate it in 2d and hopefully make some artwork for some signs in my game world.
Conclusion
Having this as a stepping stone into the world of 2dArt allowed to get a better understanding of PhotoShop, this is because for all my other 2d projects I have been using a software called “GIMP“. Having a better understanding of PhotoShop means that I can delve deeper into more adventurous pieces, such as a full body piece and not a head shot.
